David A. Beloff/Getty ImagesHuey Lewis has some news for his fans: he has recorded four songs and has other material for a new record in 2016.

“I think now they say we have ‘product’ that will ‘drop,'” he told the website Masslive.com.

Lewis said music has changed since his band was first getting recognition in the early days of music video.

“Back when we started there was only one way,” said Lewis. “It was radio. MTV copied the Radio and Records [trade magazine] playlist. Same songs with fabulously bad videos. The top 40 was really the top 23 and you needed to be in the top 5.”

Now, he jokes that there are other routes to musical glory.

“Now your hit could come off of a Farmer’s Insurance TV ad,” he said. “That could make you famous. Now there are a million avenues and it’s hard to have a real hit.”

Huey Lewis and the News are on tour all summer, and will join Jimmy Buffett for three dates in August with appearances in Massachusetts, New York, and Camden, New Jersy. A full list of touring dates is available on the band’s website.
