PRNewsFoto/Columbia RecordsDavid Gimour has announced official details about his next solo album, Rattle That Lock, which will be released September 18. The record features 10 tracks, five of which the Pink Floyd singer/guitarist wrote by himself, and five that he collaborated on with his wife and longtime lyricist, Polly Samson.

Gilmour co-produced Rattle That Lock with Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera, who also worked with David on his previous solo album, 2006’s On an Island, and on the 2014 Pink Floyd record The Endless River. The new album will be available for pre-order beginning Friday, July 17, as a standard CD, a deluxe CD/Blu-ray set, and a vinyl LP, as well as standard and deluxe digital downloads. In addition, Rattle That Lock‘s title track and lead single will go on sale Friday.

In a promotional video posted on YouTube, Gilmour reveals the album was recorded at a studio in Brighton, U.K., and on his houseboat, Astoria, which is moored near Hampton, U.K. David also reveals his musical inspiration for “Rattle That Lock,” which was a four-note sequence he heard played at French railway stations prior to announcements over the PA system, and says the song’s lyrics, which Samson wrote, were inspired by Book II of John Milton‘s Paradise Lost.

Gilmour also has scheduled four North American tour dates in support of Rattle That Lock that will be held in the spring of 2016. The concerts will take place March 24 in Los Angeles, March 31 in Toronto, April 8 in Chicago, and April 11 in New York City. Tickets for the shows go on sale Friday, July 17, at Ticketmaster outlets, via Ticketmaster.com and by phone.
