Jimmy King; Ross HalfinDavid Bowie, Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and Cyndi Lauper are among the stars who are contributing songs to the upcoming stage musical based on the Nickelodeon series SpongeBob SquarePants.

According to a press release posted on the Broadway in Chicago website, The SpongeBob Musical will premiere on June 7, 2016, at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre and will feature original tunes by Tyler and Perry, Lauper, They Might Be Giants, modern rockers The Flaming Lips, R&B star John Legend, country group Lady Antebellum, rapper T.I. and other artists. In addition, the release reports that the show will include “an additional song” by Bowie, although it’s not clear whether the rock legend will be contributing a new tune to the project.

The producers offered this description of the production: “The end is here. Only one sponge can save the day. But he’s going to need help from some of the greatest songwriters in rock and music history.”

The SpongeBob Musical‘s run in Chicago will be a limited engagement that will end on July 3 of next year. The show then will move on to Broadway for the 2016-2017 season.

Incidentally, Bowie has a previous connection to SpongeBob SquarePants: he voiced a character named Lord Royal Highness in the 2007 Nickelodeon TV movie SpongeBob’s Atlantis SquarePantis.
