Smith Music GroupOn February 20 of this year, The Charlie Daniels Band went down to Texas to play a show at the state’s largest honky tonk, Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth. Now, the veteran Southern rockers have released a CD and a DVD documenting their performance as part of the Live at Billy Bob’s Texas series.

The concert album and video feature the Daniels Band playing 14 songs, including their classic tune “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” and such other hits as “In America,” “The South’s Gonna Do It (Again)” and “The Legend of Wooley Swamp.” The set also includes renditions of a couple of Bob Dylan covers — “Tangled Up in Blue” and “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” — that appeared on the Georgia fiddle virtuoso and his group’s most recent studio album, 2014’s Off the Grid: Doin’ It Dylan.

In addition to the performance footage, the Live at Billy Bob’s Texas DVD includes new behind-the-scenes interviews with Daniels. The CD, meanwhile, is The Charlie Daniels Band’s first live album in eight years.

“When you record live, you need to ignore the recording equipment and play for the people and that big ole rowdy crowd,” says Daniels. “At Billy Bob’s Texas, that was easy to do.”
