Legacy RecordingsIt’s almost that time of year when various artists release limited-edition vinyl discs that are available exclusively at select independent record shops. Yes, the 2015 edition of Record Store Day’s “Black Friday” celebration is scheduled for November 27, and Sony’s Legacy Recordings label has announced the initial list of special releases it has lined up for the campaign.

Among the artists who will be issuing collectible discs are Elvis Presley, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Isley Brothers, Johnny Cash and Jimi Hendrix.

Elvis’ Black Friday release is a seven-inch single featuring the title track from the late King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s upcoming If I Can Dream album backed with the previously unreleased tune “Anything That’s Part of You.” If I Can Dream features a selection of Presley recordings enhanced by new accompaniment from London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Earth, Wind & Fire’s Record Store Day offering is a picture-disc version of the funk/soul legends’ 1978 hits compilation The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1, which feature such classic tunes as “Shining Star,” “Sing a Song” and “September.” The LP boasts the group’s famous gold-coin logo and is packaged with a die-cut insert.

The Isley Brothers’ contribution to the campaign is the previously unreleased double-LP concert album Groove with You…LIVE! pressed onto gold and blue vinyl. Known as the “Great Lost Isley Brothers Album,” the record originally was intended for a 1980 release but was shelved. It includes renditions of the band’s hits “That Lady” and “Fight the Power,” plus much more.

Johnny Cash’s Black Friday offering is a two-LP album called Man in Black: Live in Denmark 1971, which features the audio portion of Danish concert special country legend hosted during a tour of Scandinavia. The show features Cash performing with his wife, June Carter Cash, his longtime backing group The Tennessee Three, Carl Perkins, The Carter Family and The Statler Brothers. The special release features opaque-white and red vinyl discs in honor of the color of Denmark’s flag.

Hendrix’s contribution to the Black Friday sale is Burning Desire, a two-LP set featuring instrumental jams and demos that the late guitar legend recorded in late 1969 and 1970. The album previously was issued on the Dagger Records label but has never been available on vinyl.

Other 2015 Black Friday releases from Legacy Recordings include discs from Alan Parsons Project, Falco and Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble.
