Zack WhitfordSteven Tyler has unveiled a new charity to help women and children who have been victims of sexual abuse.

Tyler announced Monday via Twitter that the charity will be called Janie’s Fund, taking the name from Aerosmith‘s 1989 hit “Janie’s Got a Gun.”

“Proud to announce my new charity,” he said in his tweet. “Join me and stand [up] for abused girls at JaniesFund.Org.” The fund is a partnership with Youth Villages, a longstanding American nonprofit that assists children with emotional and behavioral problems, as well as their families.

“Janie’s Fund is dedicated to providing resources to hlep put the piece back together again for abused girls. Each year in our country, more than 68,000 childred are raped or sexually abused. The number of girls experience this devistating trauma before the age of 18 is a staggering 1 in 5. This MUST change,” reads the organization’s mission statement.

The Aerosmith frontman also is soliciting funds for the organization via Prizeo. Donors at various levels will receive everything from a limited edition Janie’s Fund Founding Member T-shirt with a $50 donation to a dinner with Tyler, a scarf-wrapped microphone and mic stand, and a signed and numbered framed copy of the “Janie’s Got a Gun” lyric sheet for a $75,000 contribution.
