Credit: Bryan AdamsChickenfoot, Sammy Hagar‘s supergroup with Michael Anthony, Chad Smith and Joe Satriani, will reunite to play its first full U.S. concerts in six years this May. The band recently announced a May 7 show at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe in Stateline, Nevada, that quickly sold out, so a second performance has been added on May 8.

Tickets for the latter concert will go on sale to the general public this Friday, March 18, at 10 a.m. PT via Ticketmaster.com.

Hagar tells ABC Radio that Chickenfoot is planning to “do something really special,” and will record and film at least one of the gigs. The Red Rocker says he loves playing with Chickenfoot, and points out that the all-star group is unique because the members have an agreement that they only play the band’s original material in concert.

As much as he enjoys getting together with Chickenfoot, Hagar tells ABC Radio that his “favorite band in the world” right now is his group The Circle, which features Anthony on bass, Jason Bonham on drums and his longtime collaborator Vic Johnson on lead guitar. Sammy says what he loves about The Circle is that the group gives him the opportunity to play some of his favorite songs from his solo career and from his work with Van Halen and Montrose, as well as select Led Zeppelin tunes.

Hagar, who turned 68 in October, says he no longer enjoys doing long tours, and explains that he tries to schedule about one show a month “just to keep my band happy and financially solid so that I don’t have to put a new band together when I want to go play.” Besides his reunion gigs with Chickenfoot, Sammy has four concerts lined up with The Circle — two in July and two in September.

The Red Rocker also says he badly would like to make an album with The Circle, but isn’t sure if it would be worth it, knowing how little new music by veteran artists sells these days.

“I think we could be really innovative and do some really cool stuff,” he maintains, “but to take that much time and that much effort and how much it costs to do it…I don’t know. We’re flipping the coin on that.”
