Hard as it may be to believe, the veteran U2 guitarist has never had his own signature instrument. Now, Fender has introduced not only the Edge Signature Stratocaster, but also the Edge Deluxe amp.

The Edge says in a statement he’s always had a “strong connection” with the Fender Strat. “Working with Fender and their Custom Shop over the last two years, we have been able to refine the design of my signature guitar and amplifier to a place that matches as close to humanly possible the sound I hear in my head.”

Unless you’re really into guitars, the specs on the Edge Signature Stratocaster and the amp won’t mean anything to you, but The Edge is clearly thrilled with them both. Fender’s created a five-minute video about the black-and-white guitar and its creation, featuring The Edge both playing it — you’ll recognize the signature riffs from “Where the Streets Have No Name” and “Pride (In the Name of Love)” — and taking a tour of the Fender factory in Corona, CA, talking about the guitar’s evolution as we watch one being created.

If you want an Edge Signature Stratocaster of your own, it’ll set you back $1,799, and another $2,399 for The Edge Deluxe amp. Check out Fender.com for photos, specs and other info.

By the way, Rolling Stone‘s got a nice interview with The Edge about the guitar, posted now on their website.
