Blackbird PresentsThe recently announced April 30 concert in New Orleans celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Band‘s 1976 farewell show, “The Last Waltz,” has sold out, so a second date has been added on April 29. The events, which will take place at the Saenger Theatre, will feature ex-Allman Brothers Band guitarist Warren Haynes, acclaimed producer Don Was, country singer Jamey Johnson and a variety of as-yet-unannounced stars.

The concerts, dubbed “The Last Waltz New Orleans,” will feature a house band of respected musicians, including Was, Meters bassist George Porter Jr., Radiators guitarist Dave Malone and renowned avant-jazz keyboardist John Medeski. The performance also will feature a horn section that will play the original charts created for the original “Last Waltz” show by late New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint.

“The Last Waltz” took place on November 25, 1976, at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, and was filmed for the famous 1978 concert film of the same name directed by Martin Scorsese. Performers who joined The Band at the event included Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Neil Diamond, Ronnie Wood, Ringo Starr and Dr. John.
