The outing, which has been dubbed the Stage Door Tour, will kick off on May 11 in Plymouth, New Hampshire, and recently was extended through a June 24 concert in Mount Vernon, Washington.

The trek gets its name from a song on Hayward’s debut solo album, 1977’s Songwriter, and the singer/guitarist says the title reflects the significance that live music has in his life.

“‘Stage Door’ has a particular resonance for me as when we were small boys, my brother and I could not afford to go to the shows at the [local] Empire Theatre…In fact, we were regularly chased away from the lavish entrance by the fat commissionaire who stood guard there,” recalls Justin. “But we loved the stage door — we saw many artists come and go — and we believed it was the place the real magic entered and left the building. Which of course, it is.”

He adds, “[The stage door] is often the one part of the building I actually see nowadays and it has fond memories of joy for me to be lucky enough to be returning, and sometimes foreboding.”

As with his previous few solo tours, the upcoming trek will feature Hayward playing stripped-down versions of a variety of Moody Blues and solo songs, with accompaniment from guitar virtuoso Mike Dawes and Moodies touring keyboardist and backing vocalist Julie Ragins.

Justin also has lined up solo tour of his home country the U.K. in September. You can check out a full list of his confirmed dates at JustinHayward.com.
