Porcara MusicaAlmost 40 years after he co-founded Toto, keyboardist Steve Porcaro is set to release his first solo album, Someday/Somehow, which hits stores on June 10. The 13-track collection includes material that Porcaro has been amassing for decades.

“I’ve always been writing and recording over the years, hoping to find homes for these songs with other artists,” explains Steve. “Lately, I’ve been reminded repeatedly how short life is, and I think it’s finally sinking in and with the encouragement of my band, family and fans, I decided it was time to remove my excuses, throw down, let go and finish these songs the way I hear them.”

The oldest tune, “Back to You,” was a track that Porcaro began working on with Toto in 1983 and that he wrote for his then-girlfriend, actress Rosanna Arquette. His two late brothers and fellow Toto band mates, Jeff and Mike Porcaro, both contributed their talents to the song.

Steve sings seven of the cuts, while Michael McDonald contributes lead vocals to two songs. Someday/Somehow also features guest appearances by Toto guitarist Steve Lukather and a few of the group’s touring members — backing singer Mabvuto Carpenter, percussionist Lenny Castro and drummer Shannon Forrest.

The album’s lead single, “Ready or Not,” is a song Porcaro says he wrote for his children.

“The first verse describes the day my oldest, Heather, was born,” he explains, “but the song’s a love letter to all my kids, and to anyone who travels with kids at home.”

Steve initially played with Toto from 1977 to 1987, and he rejoined the band as a full-fledged member in 2009. His other credits include touring with Gary Wright and Boz Scaggs, and co-writing Michael Jackson‘s 1983 hit “Human Nature.”
