ABC/Randy HolmesBesides being a famous recording and touring artist, Elton John is known for his tireless efforts to raise money for charity, especially for his Elton John AIDS Foundation. The pop-rock legend’s work as a philanthropist has made him the top-ranked celebrity on The Sunday Times of London’s latest annual Giving List, a survey of which wealthy U.K. residents are the most charitable.

According to The Times, Elton has donated 26.8 million pounds — or about $38 million — to charity in the past year, the majority of it to his Elton John AIDS Foundations the U.K. and U.S.

Also on this year’s list is Ringo Starr, who raised $9.2 million for charity via an auction of his memorabilia held in December. A portion of the funds brought in by the sale went to the former Beatles drummer’s Lotus Foundation, which supports a variety of charitable projects.

Other music celebrities that ranked high on the 2016 Giving List include Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor. The list’s rankings are determined by what proportion of one’s wealth a celebrity donated to charity during the past year.
