Credit: Dennis CallahanA new song by Tom Petty‘s pre-Heartbreakers band Mudcrutch has premiered at the group’s official YouTube channel. “Hungry No More,” which will be featured on Mudcrutch’s sophomore album, 2, is a mid-tempo psychedelic folk-rock tune highlighted by dreamy keyboards and fuzzed-out guitar solos.

Fans who pre-order 2 now will immediately have access to a free digital download of “Hungry No More.” The album will be released on Friday, May 20.

In other news, Mudcrutch has signed up to play an intimate May 23-24 stand at the Plaza Del Sol Performance Hall on California State University’s Northridge campus. The “Mudcrutch: From Northridge with Love” shows will benefit The Midnight Mission, the oldest continuously operating human service organization in the Los Angeles region, which aids the homeless population in the city’s Skid Row area.

The Northridge concerts now will mark the start of Mudcrutch’s U.S. tour in support of 2.

Mudcrutch’s lineup features Petty on bass, and also includes Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench, along with guitarist Tom Leadon and drummer Randall Marsh. The band formed in 1970 and broke up five years later before releasing a full album. The group then reformed several years ago and put out a self-titled debut record in 2008.
