Michael Putland/Getty ImagesA new authorized book about late Who drummer Keith Moon is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on June 13, according to Amazon. A Tribute to Keith Moon: There Is No Substitute features an introduction by Pete Townshend, and was compiled by British author Ian Snowball with the approval of Moon’s estate and his daughter, Amanda De Wolf.

Moon gained plenty of notoriety for his madcap antics and rock-star indulgences, but the book focuses more on his influential and lasting contributions as a musician. A Tribute to Keith Moon features interviews with and commentary by a variety of famous artists and friends who worked with the drummer and/or admired his talent. Among them are late Cream bassist Jack Bruce and such well-known drummers as Faces/ex-Who member Kenney Jones, The KinksMick Avory, ELP‘s Carl Palmer, Blondie‘s Clem Burke and The Jam‘s Rick Buckler.

The book also includes a wide variety of photographs, many of which are previously unseen.

In celebration of the book’s publication, a special launch party is scheduled to take place June 17 at the Barracuta apparel shop in London. Snowball will be attending the event.
