Seney National Wildlife Refuge  2016 General Calendar

Photo Tours – Thursdays June, July & August – to 11am

Meet with other photographers to explore the refuge, look for great shots and share photos and skills. You should have a working knowledge of your equipment and come prepared for a variety of weather and bug conditions.

Wildlife Wednesdays – Wednesday Nights June, July & August – 7 to 9:30pm

Join an evening guided auto tour of the Refuge backcountry. We’ll be looking for a variety of wildlife and sharing Refuge history and management practices along the way.

Duck Stamp Exhibit – August 7 to 28

Regular Visitor Center hours 9:00am-5:00pm Would you like to see some of the nation’s premier wildlife art in person? The Federal Duck Stamp Art Exhibit brings award-winning original wildlife art to Seney National Wildlife Refuge. The exhibit features the top entries as judged in the Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest as well as pieces from the The Junior Duck Stamp Art Tour.

Children’s Fishing Day – Saturday, June 25 – 9am to 3pm

Anglers ages 16 and under are welcome.To participate, register at the Visitor Center before fishing. Activities and games begin at noon. in the Visitor Center and include arts and crafts, games, and activities. Prizes, provided by local businesses, will be awarded by random drawing. A complimentary fish dinner for all participants and their families will be held at 3:00 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony.

Photo Contest – Last day to enter is August 31

The purpose of the contest is to encourage you to visit and enjoy the Refuge. When on display for voting the entries create an incredible array of Refuge experiences.

Morning Tours – Mondays and Fridays, July 8 – August 29 – 10am for 1 to 2 1/2 hours

Join us for a guided tour of the Refuge. We will be on the lookout for a variety of wildlife while sharing information on the animals we see, the history of the Refuge and current management practices.

Additional Pools Open to Fishing – September 5th to 30th

Looking to catch that big fish? Why not try a pool normally closed to fishing? If you love to fish don’t miss out on the chance to fish E, C, D and portions of B Pools that are only open to fishing from Labor Day through September 30 annually. Fishing is allowed during daylight hours only.

Fall Color Float – Saturday, October 1 -11am

Join our staff for a 4-5 hour canoe/kayak trip down the Manistique River. Boat rentals are available locally. Preregistration is required. Call for details.

Youth In the Outdoors – Saturday, October 8 – 9am to 4pm

There will be several different activities to choose from including mini sessions, long sessions, and half day sessions. If you have kids, grandkids, friends with kids, or are a kid, and you want to participate send an email to to be added to our mailing list and registration materials will be sent to you in August. A $5 registration fee are required.

National Wildlife Refuge Week – Week of October 9 to 15

Lace up your hiking shoes, strap on your bike helmet, grab your binoculars, launch your boat in the river, drive your car…. whatever your passion, come to the Refuge and enjoy your great outdoors!
