The singer visited the country in support of Shining Hope for Communities, a charity that provides free education to girls living in Kenyan slums, as well as essential services to the community.

On Monday, Madonna met with Kenyan First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and posted a picture of their meeting on Instagram, writing, “Learning about her Beyond Zero Campaign which targets eliminating maternal and child mortality in Kenya and hoping to join forces to promote Female Empowerment! Around the World! Happy 4th!”

Madonna also spent the weekend visiting Africa’s largest slum, Kibera, and shared photos of her trip. She was joined by her kids: Lourdes, Rocco, David and Mercy. Together, they helped paint a primary school in Kibera and met with local families.
