A pair of Prince albums — 2001’s The Very Best of Prince compilation and the lauded entertainer’s 1984 classic Purple Rain — are #5 and #9 on the tally, respectively, with overall pure sales of 575,000 and 413,000. Bowie’s final studio effort, Blackstar, which was released in January, landed in eighth place with 428,000 copies sold.

Blackstar also was the top-selling vinyl album for the first half of the year, selling 57,000 copies — 21,000 more than the #2 bestselling LP, Adele‘s 25. Also among the bestselling vinyl records for 2016 so far were Bob Marley and the Wailers‘ 1984 Legend compilation and The Beatles‘ 1969 album Abbey Road. Legend landed in fifth place with 23,000 copies sold, while Abbey Road takes the #7 spot with 21,000 in sales.

Bowie died of cancer on January 10 at the age of 69. Prince passed away April 21 from an overdose of painkillers. He was 57.
