RhinoWith The Monkees still out on the road on their 50th anniversary tour, here come a couple of new compilations from the group in celebration of the milestone. On August 26, the band will release a three-CD, 50-track hits collection titled The Monkees 50, as well as a single-disc album called Forever that contains 14 essential recordings by the group.

The Monkees 50 spans the band’s entire career, from its chart-topping 1966 debut single “Last Train to Clarksville” to a couple of selections from the group’s recently released album, Good Times! The three-disc set also features ’60s hits like “I’m a Believer,” “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone,” “A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You,” “Pleasant Valley Sunday,” “Words,” “Daydream Believer,” and “Valleri.” The album also includes a variety of fan favorites and lesser-known gems, a few tunes from The Monkees’ ’80s releases, and couple of live tracks.

Meanwhile, Forever features most of the same major Monkees hits that appear on the triple-CD collection, and also includes the Mike Nesmith-sung classic “You Just May Be the One.” It’s available as a CD and a vinyl LP.

The Monkees, with a lineup featuring two of the group’s three surviving members — Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork — continue their 50th anniversary tour with a show Saturday in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. The North American portion of the trek is mapped out through a November 20 concert in Englewood, New Jersey. The group also has lined up shows in New Zealand and Australia in late November and December.
