Gijsbert Hanekroot/RedfernsHere’s an unlikely way to honor a rock legend: The Bowie Baysox minor league baseball team will change the pronunciation of their name to honor David Bowie. Usually pronounced “boo-ee,” the team’s named will be pronounced as “boh-ee” as a tribute to the late music icon.

The name change will go in effect for one night only on David Bowie Tribute night July 22, which will see the Baysox battle the Erie SeaWolves. The game will be filled with Bowie’s music, contests and tributes. Additionally, the players will wear David Bowie-themed jerseys, an the game will be followed by fireworks inspired by the Thin White Duke.

The Bowie Baysox are based in Bowie, Maryland — again, normally pronounced “boo-ee” — and are the minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. For ticket info, and to get a look at the Bowie-inspired jerseys, visit Baysox.com.
