Credit: Jay BlakesbergNeil Young will be heading to the heart of the Rocky Mountains this fall to play his first shows ever in Telluride, Colorado, on September 30 and October 1. The folk-rock legend and his current backing band, Promise of the Real — the group fronted by Willie Nelson‘s son Lukas — will be performing on a new state-of-the-art stage in Telluride Town Park.

Tickets for the concerts go on sale to the general public this Thursday, July 28, at 11 a.m. MT, while a presale at local Telluride outlets begins on Tuesday at 11 a.m., and a Neil Young fan club pre-sale starts on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

“Neil Young is in that genre and demographic that for me screams ‘Telluride,'” says promoter Steve Gumble, who also founded the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival. “He’s been a part of many people’s lives for decades. His style, his environmentalism — it’s a really good fit for Telluride.”

The shows take place about two weeks after Young and Promise of the Real will play the 2016 edition of Farm Aid, which is scheduled on September 17 in Bristow, Virginia.

Neil and company will follow their Telluride gigs with October 8 and 15 performances with Paul McCartney at the Desert Trip festival in Indio, California. As usual, Young also will perform at the annual Bridge School Benefit Concert, which this year is scheduled for October 22 and 23 in Mountain View, California.
