© Jimmy KingThe nominations for the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards have been revealed, and making a surprising appearance alongside various contemporary pop, rock, R&B and hip-hop acts in several categories is the late David Bowie. Two of the influential rocker’s clips, “Blackstar” and “Lazarus,” received a total of four nods in various “professional” categories.

The video for “Blackstar,” the epic title track of Bowie’s final studio album, is up for the Best Art Direction trophy, while the “Lazarus” clip is nominated for the Best Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Editing awards.

Among the artists Bowie is competing against are Beyoncé, Adele, Fergie, Drake, Coldplay and Ariana Grande.

The 2016 MTV VMAs will be held August 28 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Fans can start voting now in the categories of Best Rock Video, Video of the Year and many others via MTV.com. The “professional” categories are not open for voting.
