JJM RecordsIan Hunter‘s old band Mott the Hoople scored its biggest hit with the David Bowie-penned classic “All the Young Dudes,” and now Hunter has paid homage to the late rock legend with a new song called “Dandy” that will appear on Ian’s forthcoming solo album, Fingers Crossed. “Dandy” is available as a digital single now, and you can check out a full-length preview of the tune at Proper Records’ YouTube channel.

Fingers Crossed, which will be released on September 16, features 10 new songs written by Hunter and was recorded with his longtime backing group The Rant Band. Ian rates “Dandy” as one of his favorite tune on the upcoming record, and says of Bowie, “David was an incredible artist with an insatiable curiosity for everything.”

The song includes the lyric, “Dandy, you’re the prettiest star/ There ain’t no life on Mars/ But we always thought there might be/ Dandy, you opened up the door/ You left us wanting more.”

Hunter will celebrate the release of Fingers Crossed with an October 7 concert at the City Winery in New York City. Ian is expected to be announcing additional U.S. shows soon.
