Credit: Danny O’ConnorThe latest installment of Todd Rundgren‘s summer fan camp takes place later this month in Stowe, Vermont, and as previously reported, the event not only will celebrate the veteran singer/songwriter’s music but also the famous musical The Sound of Music. The reason is that the camp, which has been dubbed Todd Rundgren’s TyRolean Getaway 2016, is being held at the Trapp Family Lodge, the resort established and run by the family whose story inspired The Sound of Music.

Rundgren tells ABC Radio that besides the usual jam sessions and special performances, the attendees will have the chance to take part in special presentations focusing on the musical during the five-day event.

“We’re actually going to spend most of the retreat casting and rehearsing and then presenting key scenes from The Sound of Music,” he explains. “So, all the fans will audition for various parts and then every single evening we’ll have maybe a 20-minute performance from some significant segment, with the songs and everything. So this is gonna be very interesting.”

Rundgren adds, with a laugh, that “lots of nuns and Nazis” will be needed for the scenes, “so bring your old Nazi uniform.”

Other amenities at the Trapp Family Lodge include an on-site brewery, multiple swimming pools and a 20-pereson Jacuzzi. The camp also will offer such activities as hikes, bingo and a croquet tournament.

On the final evening, Rundren tells ABC Radio, “I’m essentially doing a performance of my own…which is part of the reason why the fans like to come…It’ll be a sort of intimate, private performance just for them.”

Todd Rundgren’s TyRolean Getaway runs from August 22 to August 26. Although all the rooms are sold out, you can add your name to a waiting list in case of cancellations. Visit ToddsTyroleanGetaway.com for more details.
