Rounder RecordsSkydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective, a seven-CD anthology focusing on the late Allman Brothers Band slide-guitar whiz’s brief but prolific career, was released in 2013, and now a limited-edition 14-LP vinyl version of the compilation is slated to arrive on October 28. The collection, pressed on 180-gram vinyl, will feature the same 129 tracks included on the CD version. Only 1,000 copies will be available, each one individually numbered.

Among the tracks featured on Skydog are selections from the Allman Brothers Band catalog, songs from Duane’s early psychedelic outfits The Allman Joys and The Hour Glass, tunes from his stints with Derek & the Dominos and Delaney & Bonnie, and recordings from his session work with a variety of well-known artists. Notable artists whose songs Allman lent his considerable talents to include Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Boz Scaggs, Ronnie Hawkins, Otis Rush, Laura Nyro, Lulu and King Curtis.

The box set comes packaged with a 56-page booklet that contains rare photos, as well as essays by music journalist Scott Schinder and Duane’s daughter, Galadrielle Allman. Galadrielle also helped compile Skydog, along with respected reissue producer Bill Levenson. The vinyl collection features a number of previously unpublished photos of Duane not included in the CD that appear on the LP sleeves.

The vinyl box set can be pre-ordered at, and the crowdfunding site also is offering a variety of special deluxe bundles that include such exclusive items as signed copies of Galadrielle’s book, Be with Me: A Song for My Father, Duane Allman; a leather Skydog slipmat; a lithograph poster; and a set of collectible postcards.
