Kevin Mazur/WireImage for Live NationOver the years, Peter Gabriel has composed a few movie soundtracks, like Birdy, and placed individual songs on others, like Wall-E. His new single, debuting Thursday, is from yet another film.

The song, “The Veil,” is from Oliver Stone‘s upcoming film Snowden, the story of the man who blew the whistle on the NSA’s global surveillance programs. It’ll premiere Thursday morning on the U.K.’s BBC Radio 6, and will be released on all download and streaming services on Friday.

The track, written and produced by Gabriel, was composed specifically for the film. The movie arrives in theaters September 16, with a cast that includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Zachary Quinto, Melissa Leo and Nicolas Cage.

Gabriel hasn’t released an album of all-new material since 2002’s Up, but earlier this year he did put out a song called “I’m Amazing,” which he said was partly inspired by Muhammad Ali.
