Stax RecordsStax Records will bring a little bit of soul to Los Angeles’ rocking Sunset Strip next month when it holds a special listening party for the new Otis Redding box set, Live at The Whisky A Go Go: The Complete Recordings, at Amoeba Records. The “Soul-a-bration,” as the event has been dubbed, will begin at 2 p.m. PT on Sunday, October 23, two days after the six-CD collection hits stores.

Copies of the box set will be given away during the bash, as will vinyl copies of the Redding’s albums and such Stax-branded collectibles as tote bags and T-shirts.

The Live at The Whisky A Go Go box set features remixed and remastered recordings of Redding’s entire historic three-day engagement at the famed L.A. club, including all seven sets that the late soul legend performed at the venue on April 8, 9 and 10 of 1966. At the concerts, the singer delivered renditions of his first top-40 pop hits — “Respect,” “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” and his version of The Rolling Stones‘ classic “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” — as well as covers of such tunes as The Beatles‘ “A Hard Day’s Night” and James Brown‘s “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag.”

The box set features many previously unreleased tracks, as well as all of Redding’s between-song stage banter. The collection comes packaged with a poster.
