Reprise/Warner Bros. Records/UMeThis year marks the 40th anniversary of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers‘ debut album, and in celebration of the milestone, vinyl editions of all of Petty’s studio albums, both as a solo artist and with his band, will be released in two limited-edition companion box sets due out on December 9.

The first collection is titled The Complete Studio Albums Volume 1 (1976-1991), and features nine releases spanning from Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 1976 self-titled debut through the group’s 1991 studio effort Into the Great Wide Open.

The second box set, called The Complete Studio Albums Volume 2 (1994-2014), contains seven releases and spans from Tom’s 1994 solo album Wildflowers through Petty and the Heartbreakers’ latest record, 2014’s Hypnotic Eye. Five of the seven albums included in the Volume 2 box set are spread across two LPs — Wildflower, 1999’s Echo, 2002’s The Last DJ, 2006’s Highway Companion and 2010’s Mojo.

The box sets, which can be pre-ordered at, feature LPs pressed on 180-gram vinyl and housed in sleeves replicating the original albums’ artwork. Most of the albums have been newly remastered for the collections, and several have not been available on vinyl for years.
