Crown ArchetypeRobbie Robertson, founding guitarist and main songwriter of The Band, has just released a memoir called Testimony in which he recalls the fascinating and eventful details of his life and music career. Robertson is set to embark on a promotional tour for the self-penned tome that will feature the 73-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer taking part in a number of Q&A sessions along the way.

The trek kicks off tonight, November 15, at the New York Public Library in New York City, and will feature Robbie in conversation with E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt. The tour also will include stops in Philadelphia, the Boston area, Los Angeles, Seattle and the Canadian cities of Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary before winding down on December 13 in Nashville.

Meanwhile, Robertson also will be a guest on this evening’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which airs at 11:35 p.m. ET/10:35 p.m. CT on NBC.

As previously reported, Testimony features Robertson’s recollections of his adventures with his fellow Band members, from their early days playing bars with rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins in Canada and the Southern U.S. through to their famed 1976 farewell concert, The Last Waltz. The memoir also includes Robbie’s memories of his and his band mates tenure as Bob Dylan’s backing group, their famous “Basement Tapes” sessions with the legendary singer/songwriter and their emergence as an influential musical act in their own right.

Robertson released a companion compilation CD, also called Testimony, this past Friday. The 18-track album features live and studio recordings by The Band, select tunes from his solo career, songs by his pre-Band outfits Ronnie Hawkins & The Hawks and Levon & The Hawks, and a few Dylan tunes on which he played.
