Rhino MediaLast year, The Grateful Dead celebrated the golden anniversary of its formation, and now the band has announced plans to launch an extensive reissue campaign timed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of each of its album releases. The initiative, which will feature the release of expanded two-CD versions and limited-edition vinyl picture discs of each record, will kick off with the reissue of the group’s 1967 self-titled debut on January 20, 2017.

The two-CD edition of The Grateful Dead reissue will include a newly remastered version of the original record and a bonus disc featuring a previously unreleased 1966 recordings from the band’s July 29 and 30 shows at the P.N.E. Garden Auditorium in Vancouver, Canada. Among the memorable songs on The Grateful Dead are the band’s renditions of “Morning Dew,” “New, New Minglewood Blues” and “Viola Lee Blues.” The live disc features the band’s last-known existing live performances of three songs — “Standing on the Corner,” “You Don’t Have to Ask Me” and “Cardboard Cowboy.”

The vinyl picture disc of The Grateful Dead will feature just the remastered version of the original album. Only 10,000 copies of the special LP will be available.

Also in conjunction with the 50th anniversary reissue campaign, the band will begin releasing limited-edition seven-inch versions of its 27 singles on colored vinyl. The initiative kicks off March 1 with the release of a disc featuring “Stealin'” backed with “Don’t Ease Me In,” while three other singles will be made available during 2017, on June 1, September 1 and December 1, respectively. Fans can purchase the singles at Dead.net via a subscription.
