Founding Styx guitarist James “JY” Young says his band’s performance at the street festival should be “a blast.”

Young tells ABC Radio that Styx will be entertaining Nashville revelers just before the evening’s headliner, country superstar Keith Urban, takes the stage.

“We are billed right below him, so he’ll be on stage…leading into the midnight time sequence, but we’re on stage somewhere between 9 and 11,” Young reveals. “And they’re expecting a hundred-thousand people there ’cause it’s a free thing outdoors.”

He adds, “I don’t know what the weather’s gonna be like, but we’ve done outdoor shows on New Year’s Eve in Canada, so bring it on.”

Young says he looking forward to the concert, noting that Styx has always enjoyed performing on New Year’s Eve.

“It should be a blast,” JY declares. “And the city of Nashville is kind of the new…it’s not exactly Las Vegas East, but I know some people call it Nash Vegas these days. And that place is hopping all night long.”

Looking ahead to 2017, Young shares his New Year’s resolution with ABC Radio, as well as a positive wish for the coming year.

“I’m never getting into a driverless automobile, that’s for damn sure,” he says with a laugh.

On a serious note, he adds, “As a nation, as a civilized globe rotating through space, we have to find a way to coexist. So I’m gonna do everything I can to promote peaceful coexistence amongst people with dramatic differences.”
