Credit: Gregg RothThe new AXS TV concert special Peter Frampton Raw: An Acoustic Show premieres this Sunday, January 29, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The program captures a performance the guitar great gave at Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, during his early-2016 unplugged tour.
Peter Frampton tells ABC Radio that the special features an abridged version of the show he’s been playing the last couple years in support of his 2016 studio album Acoustic Classics, a collection of stripped-down renditions of well-known tunes and deeper cuts from his catalog.
“We thought it would be a good idea, obviously, to get this, or some of it, on film,” he explains about the special. “And it’s perfect…I think it’s [about] 55 minutes of the show.”
Among the songs Frampton performs are “Do You Feel Like We Do?,” “Wind of Change,” “All I Wanna Be (Is by Your Side),” “Show Me the Way” and “Lines on My Face,” and he also shares some stories behind the various tunes he plays.
The next installment of Frampton’s Raw: An Acoustic Tour gets underway March 24 in New Albany, Ohio, and runs through an April 12 gig in Rutland, Vermont.
Frampton tells ABC Radio that he’s been getting positive feedback from fans about acoustic treks, which he’s been alternating with tours featuring his full electric band.
“I’ve talked to people after the show [where] the wife wanted to see the acoustic and the husband didn’t. And then, the biggest fan of the acoustic night in the end is the husband,” explains Frampton. “So, that’s a nice result…And I’ve heard people say they’re not sure if they like [the] electric…show or the acoustic show [better]. You’ve gotta see ’em both, because it’s two sides of me.”
