SBME Castle USClem Curtis, lead singer on The Foundations‘ breakthrough 1967 hit “Baby Now that I’ve Found You,” has died, his family confirmed to the BBC. He was 76.

Born in Trinidad, Curtis moved to England as a teenager joining the band that would become The Foundations in 1966.

“Baby Now that I’ve Found You,” The Foundations’ first single, was an international smash, reaching #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the U.K. pop charts.

Although the group went on to score another giant smash with “Build Me Up Buttercup” in 1968, Curtis had left by then.

In his later years, Curtis toured and recorded with various new incarnations of The Foundations and appeared in the London stage production of The Wiz.
