Credit: Al PereiraLast Friday, Dave Davies released his latest album, Open Road, a joint project with his son Russ, and now the founding Kinks guitarist is ready to hit the open road in the support of the record.

The 70-year-old Rock & Roll Haller of Famer’s latest solo tour kicks off tonight in Milwaukee and will visit a variety of cities in the Midwest and Eastern U.S. before winding down on May 1 in Nashville.

According to Dave, Open Road is a “wholly collaborative” album featuring only him and his son, an electronic-music producer and artist. However, the legendary guitarist tells ABC Radio that Russ won’t be taking part in the current leg of the trek, although he’s “hoping that maybe in phase two of the touring process we might be able to get together and do a slightly different version of the show, with Russ on board with all his ideas.”

Dave reveals that the tour will feature him playing with a three-piece band that includes his old friend and collaborator David Nolte and Smithereens drummer Dennis Diken, whom he considers “one of the best rock drummers on the planet at the moment.”

As for what fans can expect to hear at his concerts, Davies reports that he plans to showcase three or four tunes from Open Road, including the title track and the album’s lead song, “Path Is Long,” as well as “a mixture of my favorite Kinks songs…some obscure songs” and some tracks from earlier solo albums.

You can listen to a couple of tunes from Open Road at Dave Davies & Russ Davies’ official SoundCloud page.
