Krieger tells ABC Radio that his shows’ sets will be made up almost exclusively of songs by his old band, which this year is marking the 50th anniversary of their self-titled debut album.

“That’s what people want to hear for the 50th anniversary,” Krieger maintains. “You know, we might do some deep-track Doors stuff, but it’ll be definitely ‘The Doors’ show.”

Asked whether he might consider playing The Doors’ first album in its entirety at his concerts, Robby says it’s “not a bad idea,” while noting that it’s something he hadn’t been planning to do. He points out, however, that quite a few of those tunes are part of his usual set, including “Break On Through (to the Other Side),” “Twentieth Century Fox,” “Back Door Man” and, of course, “Light My Fire.”

The Robby Krieger Band‘s lineup includes bassist Phil Chen and drummer Ty Dennis, the duo that previously served as the rhythm section for the Doors spinoff groups Krieger played in for years with late Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek. Keyboardist Ed Roth will be joining Krieger’s group for the upcoming shows in the Eastern U.S., while Manzarek devotee Nathan Wilmarth has been performing at the West Coast dates. And who’s handling the late Jim Morrison‘s vocal parts in Krieger’s band? None other than Robby’s son, Waylon.

“Yeah, he’s stepping into those shoes, which isn’t easy,” says Krieger with a laugh. “But he’s doing pretty good.”
