Credit: Alexander ThompsonBlondie released its latest studio album, Pollinator, on Friday, and the influential New Wave band will celebrating the new record’s arrival with a performance Tuesday evening on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

As previously reported, Pollinator finds Blondie mixing elements of its classic sound with contemporary influences, including modern electronic dance music. It features collaborations with a wide variety of artists, including Joan Jett, ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, avant-garde musician Laurie Anderson, The StrokesNick Valensi, TV on the Radio‘s Dave Sitek, pop stars Sia and Charli XCX, and indie-R&B artist Blood Orange.

In a new interview with Clash magazine, frontwoman Debbie Harry notes that Pollinator was an unusual project for Blondie because it features songwriting contributions from various artists outside of the band, among them Marr, Sia, Sitek and Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes.

“We’ve never done anything like this,” Harry notes. “We’ve never pulled it together like this. Seemed like a good idea at the time!”

The album was recorded in Blondie’s hometown of New York City, and guitarist Chris Stein tells Clash that the group approached making the record in a similar way that it made its early recordings.

“We had to go back to our roots,” he explains. “I could see the fans wanted to see that, hear that. Everybody being in a room together and playing definitely shows off. I guess there’s a return to rock sensibilities.”

In support of Pollinator, Blondie will be teaming up with Garbage for the Rage and Rapture tour, a North American trek that gets underway July 5 in Saratoga, California.

Catch Blondie on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday at 11:35 p.m. ET/10:35 p.m. CT on NBC.
