RhinoJuly 29 will mark the 50th anniversary of The Doors‘ classic song “Light My Fire” breaking on through to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and in honor of the milestone, a limited-edition vinyl single will be issued on Friday, July 28.

The special release will be a reproduction of an original 7-inch single that came out in Japan. The sleeve featured a photo of the band and included a single edit of “Light My Fire” on the A side and the album version of “The Crystal Ship” on the B side.

Only 7,500 copies will be available of the vinyl single, which is being sold for the suggested price of $7.98.

“Light My Fire” was written mainly by Doors guitarist Robby Krieger, and was the first song he ever wrote. The tune was the band’s second single, following “Break On Through (to the Other Side).”

Both songs appeared on The Doors’ self-titled debut album, which was released on January 4, 1967. The version of “Light My Fire” appearing on the album ran seven minutes and four seconds, which was edited down to two minutes, 52 seconds for the single release.

“Light My Fire” spent three weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, and went on to sell more than 927,000 copies in the U.S. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.
