Epicon RecordsFounding Asia members Geoff Downes and the late John Wetton also worked together as a duo under the moniker Icon, and now a new audio/video package documenting a February 2009 concert that they played in London has gotten its official retail release. Titled Urban Psalm, the DVD/two-CD set captures Downes and Wetton performing with a group of other talented musicians at London’s St. Mary-le-Bow church.

The show featured songs from Icon’s studio releases, Asia tunes and other material from Downes’ and Wetton’s back catalogs. Joining the prog-rock duo were longtime Rogers Waters touring guitarist Dave Kilminster, drummer Pete Riley, Panic Room singer Anne-Marie Helder, and ex-Electric Light Orchestra cellist Hugh McDowell.

The release of Urban Myth was fully sanctioned by Downes and the estate of Wetton, who died of colon cancer in January at the age of 67. The collection is the first in a planned series of Icon reissues.

Urban Psalm emerged out of a very special one-time concert featuring the music of John and I,” explains Downes, who also is a member of Yes. “Set in an historic church in London, the concert was recorded and filmed. Concert goers received a DVD as part of their attendance. Few people had the opportunity to see this live and until now has had very limited fan-based distribution.”
