Credit: Clay Patrick McBrideFounding Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington underwent a procedure this past Friday to treat blocked arteries to his heart, forcing the band to cancel a concert last week and a show today, August 8, at the Buffalo Chip campground in Sturgis, South Dakota.

According to a post on the Southern rock legends’ Facebook page, Rossington “was released Friday evening and has been home recovering and in good spirits.” The message adds, “Doctors have advised that he recover this week.” Lynyrd Skynyrd is planning to return to the road this Friday in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The note also points out that false reports have been circulating claiming singer Johnny Van Zant had suffered a heart attack. Rossington, the only surviving original Skynyrd member still in the band, has dealt with numerous heart issues in recent years, including a heart attack in late 2015.

In other news, Lynyrd Skynyrd is among the acts that will headline the inaugural Flambeau festival, scheduled for October 7 and 8 in Gonzales, Louisiana. The two-day event, which is named after the historic Mardi Gras processional torch lighting, will feature performances by various classic-rock and country artists on three stages, along with local cuisine, libations, artisans and activities celebrating Southern Louisiana culture.

Other artists on the bill include current Skynyrd tour mate Hank Williams Jr., Sam Hunt, Blackberry Smoke and Dustin Lynch.

A limited number of discounted early-bird tickets, along with VIP packages, are available now. Visit FlambeauFest.com for more details.
