Republic RecordsRod Stewart has joined forces with the contemporary dance-rock act DNCE to record a “re-imagined” version of his 1979 disco smash “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy.”

The track is due out on Friday, August 25, and Stewart and DNCE also will perform the tune together at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday night.

The original track — with its “only in the ’70s” lyrics “If you want my body/ and you think I’m sexy/ come on Sugar, let me know” — topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1979. Initially, critics slammed Rod for forsaking his rock ‘n’ roll roots to chase the disco sound, but in recent years, the song has gained more respect.

DNCE, which is fronted by ex-Jonas Brothers star Joe Jonas, apparently is becoming the go-to band when it comes to collaborating with British stars of the 1970s and ’80s. The “Cake by the Ocean” group backed veteran pop singer Bonnie Tyler on a rendition of her chart-topping 1983 classic “Total Eclipse of the Heart” during this past Monday’s eclipse.
