ABC/Randy HolmesPete Townshend recently announced he was taking a one-year break from The Who, but that doesn’t mean Roger Daltrey is going to stop rocking. He kicks off a five-date series of U.S. solo shows Monday night in Clearwater, Florida, backed by most of the members of The Who’s touring band.

In a new video message posted on the band’s official website, Roger explains, “I’m just doing a few shows since The Who are on a sabbatical, and I have to keep the voice going.” The trek has been dubbed “A Quick Run (While Pete’s Away),” a play on the 1966 Who gem, “A Quick One, While He’s Away.”

“We’re gonna do a load of songs…quite a few of them The Who have never played on stage, and a few interesting things,” Daltrey says of the upcoming shows.

He adds, “I obviously can’t be The Who without Pete, and I’m not trying to be on this. So I’m gonna have fun. More than anything the nights are about having fun, and a good time. So, look out for the shows. If we are around your way, please come and see us.”

Accompanying Roger on the tour are four members of The Who’s current touring group — guitarist Simon Townshend, bassist Jon Button, keyboardist Loren Gold, and musical director/multi-instrumentalist Frank Simes — as well as drummer Scott Devours.

Daltrey’s trek winds down with a November 8 concert in Niagara Falls, Canada. The Who wrapped up their 2017 tour itinerary with an October 1 show in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
