Credit: Brandise DaneswichJackson Browne has teamed up with the Mexican-American roots band Los Cenzontles and Los Lobos singer/guitarist David Hidalgo to record a new song titled “The Dreamer” that was released as a single today. The tune, which is sung partly in Spanish, tells the story of a Mexican girl who comes to the U.S. to reunite with her father with hopes of finding a better life, but is in danger of being deported.

The track is available for purchase now as a digital download at iTunes and Amazon. Browne co-wrote “The Dreamer” with Los Cenzontles member Eugene Rodriguez.

The song was inspired by the plight of Dreamers, illegal immigrants who were protected from deportation under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), legislation created in 2012 by President Barack Obama that President Donald Trump has vowed to bring an end to in 2018.

You can watch an official video for “The Dreamer” now at Browne’s YouTube channel and at iTunes. The clip was directed by by Mark Kohr, whose credits include videos by Green Day, No Doubt, Primus and Shakira.
