Image Courtesy of Jeff FasanoBritish blues legend John Mayall will launch a new series of U.S. dates tonight in support of his latest album, A Special Life, with a show in Ogunquit, Maine. The trek, which will visit a variety of venues in the Northeast, includes 16 shows and will wind down on September 25 in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.

Mayall’s current band features Texas guitarist Rocky Athas, as well as bassist Greg Rzab and drummer Jay Davenport, who both hail from Chicago. A Special Life was released in May, and includes three new Mayall compositions, a reworked version of an earlier song by John, and covers of tunes by Jimmy Rogers, Albert King, Sonny Landreth and Clifton Chenier.

Known as the Godfather of British Blues, the 80-year-old Mayall is best-known for leading the U.K. group The Bluesbreakers, the outfit where many acclaimed musicians honed their skills. Among the famous Bluebreakers alumni are Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Mick Taylor and Fleetwood Mac‘s Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie.
