Opening of “Fuzzy Boyak Welcome Center” announced

The Greater Munising Bay Partnership for Commerce Development (GMBPCD) announced at its Business After hours event Tuesday evening that it will be opening a new welcome center on Munising Avenue (M-28) in honor of the late Munising visionary Dennis “Fuzzy” Boyak. Obtaining and opening a new welcome center has been a priority for the organization since its creation in early October.

Funds from the Fuzzy Boyak Foundation were utilized to help obtain the new center, while a donation from Peoples State Bank (PSB) was given for signage. GMBPCD Director Char Carberry is understandably excited about the new location and equally delighted by the support from Fuzzy’s family and his former employer, PSB. “Fuzzy was dedicated to the promotion and development of Munising and the surrounding area. He was instrumental in pulling its many service and non-profit initiatives together into focused and relevant organizations. Fuzzy was also key in the creation of the original Munising Area Partnership for Development in 2006. Having a business and visitor center named in his honor is a very fitting way to carry on his legacy and dreams.”

The building, located on the corner of Munising Avenue and Maple Street, is ideally situated for visibility and accessibility from both the highway and the Bayshore Park area. The new location will serve all of Alger County as a welcome center for visitors as well as a county-wide economic development center for members, new business owners, meetings, trainings, etc. In addition, the Munising Downtown Development Authority, a GMBPCD partner, will house new offices there.

The GMBPCD should be housed in its new building within the next month.
