Reprise RecordsThe CD and digital editions of Neil Young‘s latest studio album, Storytone, get their release today. The folk-rock legend recorded the album’s 10 songs with accompaniment either from an orchestra or a big band, and he also recorded stripped-down acoustic renditions of each tune.

The standard versions of Storytone feature just the recordings augmented by the orchestra and big band, while the deluxe editions include the acoustic renditions as well. The album also is the first release Young is making available as a high-quality download for the Pono digital music system he helped develop.

In addition, a number of packages offering a 180-gram vinyl version of Storytone will be sold starting on December 16. Full details about the various editions of the album that can be purchased can be found at Young’s official online store,

In related news, a new video showing Young performing the Storytone track “When I Watch You Sleeping” live with an orchestra debuted Monday at The gentle, romantic tune features Young playing harmonica as well as singing, backed by acoustic guitar and lush strings.
