Dean StockingsCulture Club didn’t really want to hurt their fans, but unfortunately, they’ve been forced to: their North American tour, scheduled to start this weekend, has been canceled.

Singer Boy George has a polyp in his throat, and he’s been ordered by his doctor not to sing, because that may exacerbate the condition and require him to have surgery. The group’s U.K. tour, set for December, has also been scrapped. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.

“We are hoping we can reschedule the concerts for next year, and hopefully George’s problem will be resolved,” said the band in a statement. “To our fans: we wish to thank you for your loyalty and know that we love you all.”

The Culture Club tour, which was going to kick off in Rancho Mirage, California Saturday, was to have been the iconic ’80s group’s first U.S. tour with their original lineup in 14 years. The tour was to have been in support of their new single, “More than Silence,” which they performed on The View last week. It’s the first track released from their new album, Tribes, which is due in early 2015.
