RhinoJoni Mitchell will make a rare television appearance when she visits PBS’ Tavis Smiley show on Tuesday night. The lauded singer/songwriter will reminisce about her eventful life and career, and also will chat about her just-released box set, Love Has Many Faces: A Quartet, a Ballet, Waiting to Be Danced.

The 53-song, four-CD collection, which was curated by Mitchell herself, began as the soundtrack to a planned dance production that was to have been put on by Canada’s Albert Ballet, but was abandoned when she was unable to settle on a list of tunes for the project. Joni eventually wound up gathering the songs into four separate themed sections, each one that she views as a potential ballet act, and each corresponding to a disc in the box set.

In addition to compiling Love Has Many Faces, Mitchell designed the package, which includes six new original paintings, a selection of lyrical poems and extensive liner notes telling the story behind the project.
