Recently we had an excellent question on our Facebook page about whether we interview or feature local Munising and Alger artists.

The answer is yes!!! Simply call 387-4000.

This question also presents a great opportunity to bring up a topic that has been going around studio. When (not if) we are going to put on a Local Artists Show.

The answer is that as soon as we can find a sponsor (WQXO will even cover 1/2 cost as a co-sponsor of this community show), we hope to put on either a daily 1/2 hour show or a weekly 90 minute show.

So long as the show features Munising, Alger, and some U.P. artists as well, we think it will be a hit. We were thinking of approaching the local artists groups and organizations to run it and then find one or two sponsors to cover it.

We think this will give a great forum to the local artist community…on air and online.

As a side note most of our shows segments/interview will soon recycle multiple times a day (and in a couple of months select interviews/segments will be recycled on some of our other Great Lakes Radio station giving coverage across the central U.P and online). This rebroadcasting of the interviews and segments provides even more exposure.

We’ve also kicked around having local High school arts students work with student av people perhaps run show or even just do the show weekly with a weekly round up of sorts, if the local artist groups are unable to put the show together.

Regardless, we also do regular interviews and are happy to spotlight artists relevant to our community and listeners.

One nice thing about rebooting a radio station from scratch, we can put stuff out their and get some new ideas on how to make it fly. Because community radio is small and focused, it can provide coverage and shows (when sponsored) beyond anything some of the “big boys” might risk.
