Rick Springfield, known to legions of fans at Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital, took to Twitter to announce the news that he will be joining the HBO series for its second season.

“Just finished my 1st day of shooting for season 2 of HBO’s True Detective,” he tweeted on Monday night. “What a great script. Working w/ Colin Farrell & Rachel McAdams!”

Also announced for the cast: Vince Vaughn, Kelly Reilly and Taylor Kitsch.

While no stranger to TV acting — besides his stint on General Hospital, he has played himself on Californication and appeared on Hot in Cleveland and as a cartoon on The Family Guy — Springfield is still rocking out. He has shows beginning in January, with several dates featuring his “Stripped Down” acoustic series. The tour kicks off January 23 at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Springfield is also set to appear in the film, Ricki and the Flash starring Meryl Streep as an aging rock star who gets one final chance to connect with her estranged kids. Springfield will play one of Meryl’s band mates, who has a crush on her. Kevin Kline also will appear in the movie. The film’s script was penned by Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody.
