Credit: Jim SheaThe accolades keep on coming for The Doobie Brothers. Last month, it was announced that the veteran rockers will be honored with performing-rights organization ASCAP’s Voice of Music Award in April. Now comes word the band will receive the Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement from the Music Business Association, aka Music Biz, in May.

The Doobie Brothers will be presented with the Chairman’s Award at the Music Biz 2015 Awards Luncheon, scheduled to take place May 14 at the Sheraton Nashville Downtown Hotel in Nashville. According to the association, the honor “recognizes artists who have maintained a strong creative spirit and achieved significant commercial success throughout their career, continuing to release vital new music deep into their musical lifespan.”

The Doobies, of course, have enjoyed an enduring career that’s included an impressive string of memorable hits released during the 1970s and ’80s. Last year, the band released a new studio album, Southbound, which featured new renditions of many of the group’s classic songs recorded as duets with a variety of country artists. It also featured contributions from former Doobie Brothers singer/keyboardist Michael McDonald.

“Receiving this Award is a great honor, as it recognizes the music from our early days together and shines a light on the music we’re creating right now,” says founding Doobie Brothers frontman Tom Johnston.

Adds fellow Doobies singer/guitarist Patrick Simmons, “We’re excited about the new creative doors we’ve opened up for ourselves by working with so many great country musicians and can’t wait to carry that experience forward. A heartfelt thanks from the whole band to the Music Business Association for this amazing award.”

Previous Chairman’s Award recipients include Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Chicago, Carlos Santana, Lionel Richie, Kenny Rogers, Dionne Warwick, Kool & The Gang, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Paul Rodgers, and B.B. King.

The awards luncheon is held in conjunction with Music Biz 2015, an industry conference focusing on various aspects of the music business including new products and trends. The event runs from May 12 to May 14.
