Rubén Martin/ RCA Records; Glass Onyon PublicityCarlos Santana and his band will be bringing along a very special guest on their four-show tour of the guitar legend’s homeland of Mexico, which gets under way this Saturday in Monterey. Original Santana singer/keyboardist Gregg Rolie will be performing with the group throughout the brief trek.

The other concerts will take place on March 23 in Veracruz, March 26 in Guadalajara and March 27 in Mexico City, with the latter two events also featuring Journey. Of course, Rolie and guitarist Neal Schon left the Santana band in 1973 to form Journey, so some interesting onstage collaborations could be in the offing at the joint gigs.

Carlos has told numerous media outlets that his next studio album will be called Santana 4, and will feature a variety of musicians who played with his band during its early years, including Rolie, Schon and drummer Michael Shrieve.

In recent years, Rolie has been performing with his own solo group and, since 2012, has been a member of Ringo Starr‘s All Starr Band.
